Troubleshooting Notifications for the Task Tab

Troubleshooting Notifications for the Task Tab

If you aren't receiving alerts specifically for your tasks, it is likely because your system or browser is silencing them. Follow these steps to ensure both your computer and your browser are authorized to show Task Tab updates.

Step 1: Check Your Operating System Settings

Your computer’s system settings act as the master switch. If Chrome or Edge are blocked here, you will not see any task reminders.

Windows (10 and 11):

  1. Press Windows Key + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to System > Notifications (or Notifications & actions in Windows 10).
  3. Ensure the main Notifications toggle at the top is turned On.
  4. Scroll down to "Notifications from apps and other senders."
  5. Find Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge—ensure their toggles are On.
    • Tip: Click directly on the browser name to ensure "Show notification banners" is checked so tasks pop up on screen.

macOS:

  1. Click the Apple menu > System Settings (or System Preferences).
  2. Click Notifications.
  3. Find your browser in the list and ensure Allow notifications is switched On.

Step 2: Check Your Browser Settings

If the system settings are correct, your browser might still be blocking the Task Tab site specifically.

Google Chrome:

  1. Click the three dots > Settings.
  2. Navigate to Privacy and security > Site settings.
  3. Scroll to Permissions > Notifications.
  4. Ensure "Sites can ask to send notifications" is selected.
  5. Check the "Not allowed" list—if you see the Task Tab URL there, move it to "Allowed."

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Click the three dots > Settings.
  2. Go to Cookies and site permissions.
  3. Scroll to Notifications.
  4. Ensure "Ask before sending" is toggled On.
  5. Check the Block list to ensure the Task Tab hasn't been accidentally muted.

Step 3: Check Do Not Disturb & Focus Modes

This is the most common reason notifications "disappear" even when settings are correct.

  • Windows: Click the clock in the bottom right taskbar. Check if the bell icon (Do Not Disturb) or Focus mode is active. If so, task alerts will go straight to the Action Center without a pop-up.
  • macOS: Click the Control Center icon (two toggle switches) in the top right menu bar. Check if Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode is turned on.
